Alternative Site Search (September 2015)

The Need to find an Alternative Site(s)

As the years went by and Walks were held, we have held on to our fond and precious memories of “Resurrection Center” where many of our Pilgrim walks took place.  Currently, Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Center has moved toward education and the study of ecology at the facility, which means hosting more students for retreats.  As many of us have experienced, the building and atmosphere have changed greatly.  The new administration and new rules for the facility made it necessary for Emmaus to begin looking for a new location(s).  The important thing to remember is that God’s house is not any particular building, but the group of believers who are gathered together in His name, no matter where we may be.  So, hold on to the wonderful memories of retreats past as we move forward exploring and trying out new and exciting centers for our Walks!

The Site Selection Committee diligently researched and visited previous & new sites for future walks, using criteria approved by the Emmaus board.   The 2016 walks will be held at Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien, IL.  The board continues to actively look for new sites and welcomes all suggestions. The facility would need to meet board approved criteria, which includes a specific number of rooms and ample parking.  To suggest a site, inquire to see if a particular site was already considered or to obtain a list of criteria, please contact the Community Lay Director via the Northern Illinois Emmaus website with your questions and/or requests.
