Site Selection Update

Site Selection Study and Outcome

Like all organizations, there are committees and Boards entrusted to do the work required to keep the organization alive and vibrant. The Northern Illinois Emmaus Community functions just the same. Over the past couple of years the Loyola Retreat Center has approached NIE with a list of changes to the Walk venue that became increasing difficult to concede to….. many traditions being altered and amended. The Board felt it in the best interest of the Community to research alternative sites

A group of 6 Board members was formed –they earnestly researched and culled a vast list of potential  sites. In the end, in-depth studies of 5 locations were visited, reviewed and presented to the Board. At the April meeting by a unanimous vote with one abstention, the new facility at the Carmelite site in Darien was approved for both the Spring and Fall Walks of 2016. Site investigations will continue but securing appropriate dates a year in advance is also pre-requisite.

Thank You to the Site Selection Committee for a job well done

Further information on Carmelite will be shared in upcoming newsletters – for now let’s attend Gatherings and prepare for our Fall Walks
